confluence, noun: "a gathering or merging, derived from the meeting point of two or more rivers."

This exhibition takes its title from a book my father Calvin Israel edited for the Modern Language Association.  I agree with the meaning he intended, where the gathering point creates a powerful current of inspiration.  My thanks to  the students, staff & faculty of Contra Costa, Laney and Merritt Colleges for the inspiration gathered from all of your voices.                                                                                                                                       -  Susannah Israel, 2006
